Network-level simulation and validation
The defined and developed protocols, algorithms and network architectures are rigorously simulated and validated using a range of techniques:- Operations research techniques, such as linear programming and heuristics.
- Simulation (NS based, OPNET based, proprietary in-house developed). An example is the in-house developed Advanced network-aware Grid Simulator (AGS) to emulate the behaviour of Grid management components.
- Techno-Economic analysis.
- Performance analysis.
As an illustration, the techno-economic analysis covers features like: CapEx and OpEx modelling of communication networks; network dimensioning for CapEx modelling; work flow analysis for OpEx modelling; cost allocation evaluation and strategies; multiperiod planning approaches, and combined OpEx/CapEx design of future generation backbone networks. Techno-Economic analysis of Internet on Trains is investigated, as are new Internet business models (e.g. the impact of Thin Client concept).
