Content Management and Search
The research domain covered by the Content Management and Search cluster can be divided in two major subdomains, i.e., Content Management and Placement (CMP), respectively, Semantic Index and Search (SIS).
In the CMP group, the focus is on management solutions for personalized and adaptive multimedia content delivery to heterogeneous end-user devices. Several aspects are studied in detail, ranging from networking algorithms and protocols for content distribution networks, over distributed content storage, to peer-to-peer alternative approaches, always keeping the principle of quality-of-service in mind.
The basic principle for research in the SIS group is the need to efficiently search for specific data amongst the ever growing amount of non-structured content. Divers data and information mining techniques are applied, such as automated metadata extraction, computational linguistics, distributed indexing, ontology-based search, user modeling, etc…, all focusing on intelligent ways to solve the nowadays relevant issues in information retrieval.
