The IBCN group is performing fundamental and applied research on internet based communication networks and services, with our competences in following research clusters.
Network Modeling, Design and Evaluation conducts research on fixed network architectures (with emphasis on optical and IP), techno-economics, energy-efficiency and network algorithm design.
Mobile and Wireless Networking focuses on the design of novel network architectures and advanced networking algorithms & protocols for mobile and wireless networking.
High Performance Multimedia Processing looks at the challenges of the storage, transport and processing of multimedia content in professional environments, with focus on computing, storage and network facilities; archiving of the massive amounts of data, and control of the quality of the multimedia content.
Autonomic Computing and Networking investigates how to apply the autonomic concept to the management of large distributed computing facilities and communication systems, in order to reduce operational cost whilst observing high-level system objectives. More specifically, the cluster investigates autonomic communication systems, autonomic clouds (also addressing smart power grids), cloud offloading solutions for smart clients and parallel computing.
The Service Engineering research activity focuses on the research for novel service platforms and technologies to enable the flexible development and deployment of applications in C2C, B2C and B2B environments (“the internet of services”).
Content Management and Search focuses on the problems associated with both (i) the personalized and/or adaptive distribution of (multimedia) content, as well as (ii) efficiently searching for specific content in continuously growing and changing non-structured content sources.
Data Analysis and Machine Learning focuses on the study and design of innovative algorithms for efficient and accurate characterization, analysis, modeling, simulation and optimization of complex systems, with applications in various fields of science and engineering.
Information Extraction and Retrieval covers the research domains of text-based search technology and information extraction. The underlying rationale is the need to efficiently search and discover information from large collections of unstructured textual data, be it Web data, news archives, social media data, etc. Due to the 'information overload', this would be impossible without the appropriate technology.
Electromagnetics focuses on electromagnetic simulation techniques and theory. Much attention is given both to the development of powerful simulation tools and to industrially relevant applications.
Physical Layer Design specializes in the research and development of high-speed and high-frequency electronic circuits, subsystems and system demonstrators on chip and board level. This know-how and expertise is applied to the physical layer of several advanced wired, wireless and instrumentation applications.
